Reducing Sodium Intake Free, downloadable radio news story for your use. Click here for the .mp3 file. Transcript: RISE: U.S. DIETARY GUIDELINES RECOMMEND CONSUMING LESS THAN 2,300 MILLIGRAMS OF SODIUM, OR ABOUT ONE TEASPOON OF SALT PER DAY, BUT NEARLY ALL OF US CONSUME MUCH MORE THAN WE NEED. I'M RISE JILL MILLER. HIGHER LEVELS OF SODIUM IN THE DIET HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH HIGHER BLOOD PRESSURE. REDUCING SALT INTAKE AS PART OF A HEART HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CAN HELP LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE AND RISK OF RELATED HEART DISEASE. YET MANY PEOPLE DON'T LOOK FOR LOWER SODIUM OPTIONS BECAUSE THEY'RE CONCERNED ABOUT TASTE. LISA DRAYER, REGISTERED DIETITIAN: LISA: "There are simple ways to reduce your daily sodium intake. Include fresh, frozen or "no salt added" canned vegetables as part of a balanced diet. Prepare foods with herbs to boost their flavor while cutting back on added salt. And, take advantage of the many foods now available in reduced sodium versions, like soups and breads. Pepperidge Farm is the first major U.S. baker to reduce the sodium in eight of its bread varieties, including its 100% Natural line. They reduced the sodium but not the taste." Latino HIV Rates Rising Free, downloadable radio news story for your on-air use. Click here for .mp3 file. Click here for Spanish .mp3 file. Transcript: Dave: The Latino community makes up about 15 percent of the U.S. population, and accounted for 17 percent of all new HIV cases in 2006. As the ethnic group with the second-highest rate of HIV diagnosis among adults and adolescents, this disease continues to greatly affect the Hispanic community. Currently, there are now more than one million people in the U.S. living with AIDS and the numbers continue to rise. Now, more than ever, members of the Latino community need to learn more about the disease, prevention and effective treatments available, according to Dr. Juan Bailey, Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. Dr. Bailey: "While the Hispanic community continues to be affected by HIV and AIDS, it is more important than ever for people to learn more and protect themselves. For those living with HIV, effective new treatment options are available with potentially fewer side effects." "I encourage everyone to learn more about the disease and get tested. For those living with the disease, talk with your doctor about new treatments." Dave: The current focus challenges Latinos to address HIV and AIDS through education, to fight a disease that greatly threatens their community. |
Car Care Tips Free, downloadable radio news story for your use. Click here for the .mp3 file. Transcript: RISE: HAVE TIME TO THINK ABOUT VEHICLE MAINTENANCE? IF THE ANSWER IS NO, YOU'RE NOT ALONE. I'M RISE JILL MILLER. MOST OF US LEAD SUCH HECTIC LIVES, THAT OUR CAR ENGINES ARE THE LAST THING ON OUR MINDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING MOTOR OILS. BUT CAR CARE EXPERT JIM MACPHERSON SAYS YOUR AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN CAN HELP YOU MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR ENGINE, ESPECIALLY WITH COOLER WEATHER APPROACHING. JIM: "Many consumers don't have time to think about car maintenance needs. And even if they do, they can feel intimidated. There are so many choices, it gets confusing." RISE: BUT MACPHERSON SAYS NEW TRENDS SHOW THAT DRIVERS HAVE A DESIRE TO KEEP THEIR CARS FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. AND THE LONGER WE KEEP CARS, THE GREATER THE CHANCE FOR ENGINE TROUBLE. JIM: "Synthetic oils, like Mobil 1®, can withstand extreme conditions better than conventional oils and have a more consistent and predictable performance. Synthetics are engineered to go further between oil drain intervals, as they are capable of resisting breakdown for much longer." RISE:FOR MORE VEHICLE MAINTENANCE TIPS, VISIT MOBIL OIL DOT COM.
